GUIDE Job Description

Lead groups on kayak and/or paddleboard tours lasting from 2 hours to full day and are primarily responsible for all aspects of tour clients’ safety and experience. This is a physically and demanding job. Applicants must have good sea kayak paddling skills and have experience paddling in groups. They also need to be able to move heavy kayaks, walk in sand, swim, and work outdoors in both hot and cool conditions. Guides must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license, and must be certified in adult, infant, and child CPR and First Aid. Starting pay dependent upon experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Minimizing risk while providing an excellent customer experience

  • Responsible for leadership and execution of any emergency protocols on the water

  • Being able to assess and control groups of varying abilities and ages

  • Practicing and advocating respectful observation of all wildlife and ecology

  • Sharing local history with participants

  • Preparing all customer gear for tours

  • Determining tour routes based on tide, wind, and weather conditions

  • Perform our required ‘beach talk,’ which includes safety, navigation, and paddling technique

  • Fitting customers in their kayaks

  • Assisting with the launch and recovery of kayaks

  • Moving equipment for tour to and from the beach

  • Assist with tour cleanup, if needed
