Getting Here and Launch Locations

To get to all of our tour starting points, you will need to get to Whidbey Island first…

There are 3 ways onto Whidbey Island:

  • From Canada, Bellingham and all points North: Take The Deception Pass Bridge! If you haven't been, do yourself a favor, go see it. It's a really gorgeous spot and you will want to take some photos.

  • From Port Townsend, the Olympic Peninsula and all points West: a 30 minute ferry ride on the Port Townsend-Coupeville WA State ferry. Port Townsend is a great entry point if you are visiting the Pacific NW. It's a town with a vibe, a history, cool architecture, great food, and funky shops. We highly recommend making a reservation in advance. Beware: a very low tide can cancel a sailing of this ferry, so be sure to check for cancellations.

  • From all points East and South, including Seattle: a 20 minute ferry ride on the Mukilteo - Clinton WA State ferry. This ferry runs approx. every half hour. From the terminus of Clinton, it's a 10 minute drive to our headquarters in Bayview and 10 minutes to our summer hourly rental base in Langley, WA. No advance reservations for this ferry, BUT allow wait time, especially on weekends and holidays. The drive from downtown Seattle to Mukilteo is approximately 30 miles. Mondays through Fridays, you can take the Community Transit bus or the Sounder train.

  • If you are walking onto the Mulkilteo ferry there is paid parking nearby in a recently new parking lot… learn more here.

  • Awesome downloadable map of the island

Our world headquarters is located at 5781 Bayview Road, Langley 98260

A few of our favorite launch spots from South to North:

Clinton
Possession Beach Waterfront Park: From Hwy 525, turn south onto Cultus Bay Road. Simply stay on that road as it winds south and follow signs for approx. 6.5 miles. The park will be on your right. Facilities include plenty of parking, picnic tables, and restrooms.

Clinton Beach: Next to the ferry and is accessed via Hunziker Ln, which is by the traffic light at the ferry tollbooths. There are restrooms, but parking is limited. We recommend dropping off your gear and then parking at either the free Park-n-Ride lot available on Deer Lake Rd. behind the Post Office about a 1/2 mile north off Highway 525 and walking back down the hill. There is also an inexpensive pay lot—bring singles—(turn at Simmon's Garage and go a couple of blocks) that connects to a staircase which will bring you closer to the launch spot.

Glendale Beach: Usually sheltered and quiet, this stone beach is a lovely spot to launch. Easy parking lot, picnic tables and a port-o-potty with views of the ferry make this a local fav. Take Humphrey Road south from Hwy 525.

Dave Mackie Park/Maxwelton Beach: From Hwy 525, turn south on Maxwelton Rd. Simply stay on that road as it winds south and follow signs for approx. 5 miles. The park will be on your right. Facilities include plenty of parking, picnic tables, and restrooms.

Langley
South Whidbey Harbor: Once you arrive in Langley, follow wayfinding signs to the waterfront. From either First St or Cascade St., turn down Wharf St. (There is little to none public parking.) There are public restrooms, a port-o-potty and coin-op showers.

Freeland
Mutiny Bay/Robinson Park: from Hwy 525, turn west/south onto Fish Rd.  Fish Rd will dead-end at Mutiny Bay Rd in approx. 2 miles, make a left onto Mutiny Bay Rd. After another 1.5 miles, make a right onto Robinson Rd. Parking lot will be on tour right. There are no facilities at this launch site, except for a port-o-potty during the summer.

Freeland Park/Holmes Harbor: Where Stewart Rd. and Shoreview Dr. meet. Ample parking, public restrooms, covered picnic table, and a wonderful kids park.

Coupeville
Captain Coupe Park: From State Route 20, turn right/north at the light for Coupeville’s main street. Drive north .5 miles to 9th street and turn right. Drive .3 miles to the park entrance on your left. facilities include restrooms, picnic tables, and parking.

Captain Whidbey Inn: 2072 Captain Whidbey Inn Road Coupeville, WA 98239 Click here for directions.

Mueller Park: From SR 20, turn East into Madrona Way. Proceed for maybe a mile down the road and the park will be on your left. If you reach the Captain Whidbey Inn, you've gone too far. Just turn around and backtrack a quarter of a mile. A WA State Discover Pass is required for parking at the site. There are no facilities at this site.
